Standard

I DID IT.

Do what?
I did what I said I was going to do.

In this case, it was running 13.1 miles, checked off my list of 2011 New Year’s resolutions.
But in the big picture, it could have been a lot of things.
I love doing things that I say I’m going to do.
I love feeling accomplished.
(And who doesn’t?)
It’s kind of nice to have a small victory remind you of what that feels like to succeed at larger things.

Still, the best part of this weekend wasn’t crossing something off my to-do list,
it was being  in the presence of warm spirits.
(Not referring to my mother’s hard alcohol.)
Family. Friends. Fantastically happy, random strangers.
They all made this weekend an experience to be fondly remembered.

I think it’s almost the perfect segue into the holiday season.
The personalities which we surround ourselves with
have a lot more to do with our memories than the events themselves.
I rarely remember what I wore, or what I received on any given Christmas.
But I never forget how my family and friends make me feel.
{You know, the same bubbly feeling that surfaces during the movie Elf.}

And so, for this winter, my mantra will truly be:

holiday spirit, materialistic, the best things aren't things, holiday cheer

Well said, no?
And I’m not just saying this because I have about fifty cents in my checking account.
I really believe in this kind of holiday spirit.

 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Wishing you and yours the best and brightest for the winter ahead. xox.
